Originally initiated in 2019 with support from FEMA, this regional effort brought together all 19 NVCOG communities to develop a comprehensive, coordinated approach to hazard mitigation. Because FEMA requires NHMPs to be updated every five years, this most recent update ensures that all municipalities remain compliant with current federal standards while strengthening regional preparedness.
The updated NHMP identifies and evaluates natural hazards and associated risks across the region, assesses existing local capabilities, and outlines actionable strategies to reduce the risk of property damage and loss of life. The plan emphasizes proactive planning, resilience, and public safety, while also recognizing the importance of preserving the region’s history, cultural resources, and natural environment.
Milone & MacBroom Inc. (MMI) served as the project consultant, bringing extensive experience in hazard mitigation planning throughout Connecticut and beyond. NVCOG oversaw the project and worked closely with MMI, municipal officials, and community stakeholders throughout the process.
This updated plan reflects a strong regional commitment to preparedness, collaboration, and long-term resilience in the face of natural hazards.
