Dog Licenses

Residents must license their dogs six months and older through the Town Clerk's office per State of Connecticut regulations. Licenses must be renewed annually in June. A penalty of $1.00 per month is charged for late licensing or renewals. You may obtain a dog license in person, by mail, or Renewals only Online. You will need:

  • A certificate or bill from the veterinarian showing current rabies vaccination and its expiration date. You can email updated pet information to TownClerkEmail.
  • A veterinarian certificate or bill showing that the dog has been neutered or spayed; otherwise, the non-altered fee will be charged.
  • The fee is $8.00 for a spayed or neutered dog; or $19.00 for an unaltered dog.
  • Dog License Application to apply by mail or use Drop Box in Town Hall foyer.

If applying for a dog license by mail, please send the application form, supporting documentation, and a check made out to Prospect Town Clerk, along with a self-addressed business-sized envelope stamped with two postage stamps, to:

Other Dog Licensing Fees

  • Replacement of Lost Current Tag: $.50
  • Transfer of Ownership (if already issued): $1.00
  • Change of Residence (within Town): $.50
  • 10 Tag Kennel Licenses for an owner, keeper, or breeder owning 10 or more dogs that are for show, sport, or sale: $51.00
  • Guide Dog: Free

 

Hunting & Fishing Licenses

Sporting licenses are issued on a calendar year and expire on December 31st of the year purchased. Lifetime licenses are available for those over 65 years of age, but these must also be renewed annually.
