Go "paperless" when you sign up for e-bills with the Town of Prospect.  You will no longer receive a paper bill in the mail.  Instead, you will receive an e-mail notification with your tax bill attached.  ALL TAX BILLS WILL BE SENT ELECTRONICALLY IF YOU OPT INTO THIS OPTION WHICH INCLUDES, REAL ESTATE, MOTOR VEHICLE, MOTOR VEHICLE SUPPLEMENT AND PERSONAL PROPERTY.  Signing up for e-billing also will add you to the email notification list for payment reminders.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Town of Prospect Tax Collector’s office is to assist in maintaining the fiscal stability of the Town by ensuring the timely collection of all tax revenue and charges due. We do this by instilling public confidence in the integrity of the Tax Collector’s Office and assisting the public in understanding the taxation process and procedures.  Our aim is to achieve the highest level of voluntary compliance through accurate, efficient and courteous customer service.

Our office is responsible for the billing and collection of all real estate, personal property and motor vehicles taxes as well as any related penalty charges.  Additionally, Water Pollution Control Authority sewer use charges and related penalty charges are also collected by the Tax Collector’s office.


The Tax Collector's Office is responsible for the billing and collection of real estate, personal property and motor vehicle taxes that comprise approximately 82% of the town's operating revenue. Sewer Use Fees are also collected under the direction of the Prospect Water Pollution Control Authority. The Tax Collector’s office operates under the authority of the Connecticut General Statutes.

Real Estate taxes amounting to more than $100 are due in two equal installments on July 1st and January 1st.

Personal Property (business) taxes amounting to more than $100 are due in two equal installments on July 1st and January 1st.

Motor Vehicle taxes are due annually on July 1st for vehicles registered as of October 1st of the preceding year.

Supplemental Motor Vehicle taxes are due annually on January 1st for vehicles registered between October 1st and September 30th.

Sewer Use Fees are due annually on October 1st based on water usage from July 1st thru June 30th. Sewer Use fees are categorized as a utility and therefore not available to view online.

Interest is charged on all late payments at the rate of 1 1/2 % per month (18% per annum) from the original due date on all delinquent taxes and sewer use fees. (CT State Statute 12-146)
